Fun Trailer for ‘Time Travel is Dangerous’ British Indie Sci-Fi Mock Doc

“I guess we were just messing about…” Shakespeare Sisters & Candr Pictures revealed the full trailer for a UK indie sci-fi comedy titled Time Travel Is Dangerous, opening in UK art house theaters this March. This premiered at a few film festivals last year, including at the 2024 Trieste Science+Fiction Festival. Time Travel Is Dangerous is a quintessentially British comedy, blending witty dialogue, quirky characters and a touch of the absurd with a heartwarming core. Best friends Ruth and Megan run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill, North London. Stumbling across a time machine, they embark on trips to the past to stock their shop with no idea of the irreparable damage that they’re causing to the fabric of the universe. They don’t want to change history, or rob banks, they just want to find a nice lamp… without getting sucked into the hellish time / space vortex that is the Unreason. Starring Ruth Syratt & Megan Stevenson (as themselves) set around their actual Muswell Hill vintage shop called ChaChaCha – “bringing a real-life doc element to the sci-fi mockumentary.” Also with Johnny Vegas, Jane Horrocks, Sophie Thompson, Mark Heap; and featuring narration by Stephen Fry. This actually has impressive VFX – and looks like proper bonkers fun.

Best friends Ruth & Megan (Ruth Syratt & Megan Stevenson) run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill. When they stumble across a time machine, it occurs to them that stock is much cheaper if they ‘borrow’ from the past – well, it’s free. They don’t want to change history, or rob banks – just want to find a nice Victorian lamp or authentic 80s bum bag without getting sucked into the time-space vortex that is “the Unreason”. The thing is, Time Travel Is Dangerous. is directed by British writer / filmmaker Chris Reading, director of the films Somnus and Life on Wheels previously, plus a few other short films. The screenplay is written by Chris Reading, Anna-Elizabeth Shakespeare & Hillary Shakespeare; from a story by Ruth Syratt & Chris Reading. Produced by -Elizabeth Shakespeare & Hillary Shakespeare. This initially premiered at the 2024 Trieste Science+Fiction Festival & Austin Film Festival last year. Reading’s Time Travel is Dangerous film will debut in UK cinemas starting March 28th, 2025 this spring. No US release has been set yet. Any fun?
