Google completed its Fitbit acquisition in 2021. Less than a year later, in 2022, the company announced that starting in 2023, users would need a Google account to activate new Fitbit devices. It also gave existing users until early 2025 to migrate from their Fitbit accounts to Google accounts. Then, in March 2025, the company delayed the deadline by almost a year to February 2, 2026. Google has now again silently extended that timeline.
