“My head was just full of ideas. It was his form of art.” Abramorama has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary film called Space Cowboy, arriving to watch in theaters starting in February then on VOD. This originally premiered back in 2024 at the Toronto Film Festival and it has been waiting to get released until now. A thrilling film directed by Bryce Leavitt and Marah Strauch – she also directed the skydiving doc Sunshine Superman years ago (and I interviewed her about it). The film profiles Joe Jennings, a pioneer of skydiving cinematography, who looks back on creating iconic moments in film & TV, while he tries to turn a dreamlike vision into reality. The film delves into Joe’s extraordinary 40-year career in the sky. Through stunning archival footage, revealing interviews, dramatic verité, they uncover a deeper emotional journey as Joe navigates loss, depression, and the challenge of balancing a life in the sky with all of the realities on the ground. He’s also the visionary madman behind the famous “flying car” stunt to promote their company. I’ve seen this – and it’s another fascinating, must see doc for anyone who loves or is interested in skydiving.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Marah Strauch & Bryce Leavitt’s doc Space Cowboy, on YouTube:

Joe Jennings, an innovator in the world of skydiving, has spent decades capturing breathtaking aerial moments with his camera for extreme sports competitions, Super Bowl commercials, & many Hollywood blockbusters. Driven by a passion for “camera flying” in his youth, Joe cultivated a deep friendship with fellow skydiver Rob Harris, partnering to become one of the most influential skysurfing teams in history. Flying at the top of their game, Joe’s world was shattered when tragedy struck, leaving him to navigate the skies alone. Never giving up, he has continued to push the boundaries of aerial cinematography and skydiving, finding solace in the clouds while grappling with profound grief and depression. Now, at 62, this pioneering skydiver is taking on a new challenge, elevating his art with a daring “flying car” stunt.
Space Cowboy is a documentary film co-directed by Marah Strauch (director of Sunshine Superman, Vice Versa: Chyna) & Bryce Leavitt making their first feature film together. Produced by Bryce Leavitt, Marah Strauch, and Tyler Measom. This initially premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival a few years ago and played at other a few other festivals. Abramorama debuts Strauch & Leavitt’s Space Cowboy doc in select US theaters starting February 27th, 2026 this winter before it’s available VOD after. Anyone want to watch?
